Ecocycle Planning for my Career

Its been nearly two years now since I joined the Agile Delivery Practice at Fidelity.  Before I embarked on this endeavor, I captured my professional development lines of effort in this post from 2018. Since then, I have been blessed with some incredible growth and mentorship.  A full recounting of all that I have learned in this chapter of my journey will surely come later. In the meantime, I would like to share a graphic update of my current focus areas for professional development.

I am excited to be taking part in a course hosted by Dana Pylayeva for remote agile training with liberating structures.  Dana is using training from the back of the room techniques to deliver a 5 part course focused on delivering agile training remotely. While designed for a CSTs from the Scrum Alliance guide community that are pivoting their work to remote training, it is applicable for any training material. Dana is stringing together liberating structures (LS) for us to engage the material.  From this, we are gaining an appreciation for how LS can be used in a virtual format – vLS, if you will.

Our homework for day 3 was to use  31_Ecocycle-Planning.png Ecocyle Planning, a liberating structure that I have read about but never experienced, to review our career journeys. It was quite fun to think about what is new and still being planted (sowing), what is sprouting and taking hold (tending), what is mature and doing well (harvesting), and what is ready to be creatively destroyed (plowing).  I now have a great place from which I can reset goals for 2020.

You may recall I published a journey line for my career in 2017 in this post from an exercise I did in Lyssa Adkins’ Agile Coaching Bootcamp.   The ecocycle planning exercise above was a fresh way to think about my career journey and allow me to take stock of where I want to focus my efforts next.
